G’day, you lovely lot! Who else is excited for the start of the Australian Open? If you’ve been following my blog for awhile, you’ll know that last May I started making special cupcakes for each of the Grand Slams. Well today I’m going to cap off this series with an Australian Open inspired cupcake. I’ve heard quite a few people who’ve traveled to Australia talk about Tim Tams and the famous “Tim Tam Slam”. Tim Tams are a chocolate biscuit or cookie that’s filled with chocolate cream and dipped in chocolate. I couldn’t pass up the chance to incorporate cookies […]
Today is the start of the US Open in the heart of the Big Apple. And as with the other Grand Slams, I’ve concocted a special cupcake to celebrate the spirit and energy of this iconic tournament. Such an American tournament calls for an equally patriotic cupcake, and nothing says “America” more than apple pie and Cracker Jacks. These two classic American flavors combine to create a spectacularly scrumptious caramel apple pie cupcake.
History imbues every nook and cranny of the All-England Club, from its ivy-covered walls to each blade of pristine emerald grass. White clothing, rainy days, and old-fashioned English etiquette are all part of Wimbledon’s charm and tradition. And while afternoon tea, finger sandwiches, and Pimm’s are always on-hand during the fortnight, one delicacy reigns supreme–strawberries and cream. There’s nothing more classic than a bowl of sweet, tart strawberries bathed in rich cream. Now you can enjoy this iconic treat in the form of a sweet, creamy cupcake. Because Wimbledon just isn’t Wimbledon without strawberries and cream.
Yesterday was the start of Roland Garros–the French Open. What better excuse to explore and indulge in the flavors of France? French was one of my favorite subjects in high school. Our outstanding teacher, Monsieur le Prof, took the time to introduce us to some French cuisine. One of my favorite treats he brought to class was strawberries dipped in sour cream and rolled in brown sugar. Wait, sour cream? Yes, I said sour cream. As crazy as the combination sounds, trust me when I say that it is mouth-wateringly delicious. And for me, it just isn’t the French Open if I don’t break out the strawberries, […]
I’ve been debating whether or not I should write this post. One of my favorite things to do in my free time is scroll through photos on Pinterest and blogs, especially travel photos. Photos filled with movement, color, and emotion. In other words, the kind of photos I wish I could take. Photography is one of those talents that I really want to develop but am a little overwhelmed by all the technical skills involved. Plus I guess you could say I get a bit camera shy when I take photos because I feel it’s so obvious I have no […]
Each March the world’s most elite tennis players gather in Indian Wells, California for one of “the premier professional tournaments in the world”. The BNP Paribas Open offers a spectacular opportunity to get close to the game’s finest athletes. From Connors to Federer and Navratilova to Sharapova, this tournament has a rich history of exemplary tennis. But before you hop on a plane for the sunny deserts of southern California, here are some tips I’ve learned from over 15 years of attending this outstanding tournament.
