January 25th is Burns Night in Scotland. For those unfamiliar with Burns night, it’s a celebration of the life and work of the famous Scottish author, Robert Burns. Traditionally, a Burns supper is held, complete with pipers, poetry, and haggis. Such an occasion sounds like a great opportunity to plan another Around the World party. So its off to Scotland we go! This rugged, beautiful land is rich in culture, history, and tradition just waiting to be explored!
The 13th of December marks Saint Lucia Day, a festival of light and hope in Scandinavian countries. Coinciding with the winter solstice, Saint Lucia Day honors Saint Lucy, who brought food and aid to Christians hiding in catacombs from persecution by the Roman empire. Seeing as I have Scandinavian ancestors and Swedish friends, I’ve always wanted to throw a Saint Lucia Day party. I’ve put together some adorable crafts and delicious recipes that kids are sure to love! Besides getting everyone in the Christmas spirit, a Saint Lucia Day party is also the perfect opportunity to teach kids about a […]
Last weekend was the fourth annual Salt Lake Comic Con in the heart of Salt Lake City. This was my first time going to a convention of any kind, so I brought along my camera to document all of my experiences. Without further adieu, here are my thoughts on what is toted as “Utah’s Favorite Pop Culture Event”.

With the Summer Olympics coming up in just a couple of months, I thought it was the perfect time to put together a Brazilian Around the World Party for my niece and nephew. Summer is here! Which means it’s time to start gardening. Why not get the kids involved? Gardening is a great way to get kids of the couch and outside learning about responsibility and science. It lets you spend quality time together enjoying the beauty of nature. And you may even find your kids are excited to eat the fruits and veggies they’ve grown. *gasp* But before you break out the trowels and herd the kiddos outside, here’s are a few tips for gardening with kids.
Recently I’ve been on a bit of a nostalgia trip. For Easter I made all of the old family-favorite recipes we’d have at my grandma’s house. That got me thinking about all the other snacks and food Grandma Moo always had on-hand. From Pringles and Pepsi to freshly peeled apples and Mason jars of carrots and celery, grandma always had something yummy to snack on. I have countless childhood memories of munching on these sandwich-cookie hybrids and hanging out with my grandma–learning how to sew, watching The Price is Right, chatting. I know I’m not the only who grew up eating these […]
It’s time for the main event! Tomorrow is the largest Festival of Colors celebration in the Western Hemisphere (at the Krishna Temple in Spanish Fork, Utah). So it’s time to put on an old white t-shirt, pull out the color powders, and herald in spring with an exhilarating color extravaganza.
It’s time for another Around the World Party. This week we’re heading to Russia to explore its rich history and culture. From the vibrant domes of St. Basil’s Cathedral to the fairytale forests of Russia’s countryside, there’s so much to explore in this vast country. Poydem (let’s go)!
Last summer I started doing Around the World themed days with my nephew and niece. As a kid I always loved learning about different cultures and customs. So I figured my nephew and niece might enjoy a little cultural exploration too. And what better way to do that than to “travel” around the world one country at a time? Travel is thrilling and magical. It gives us a chance to step out of the mundane and everyday and experience the new and unfamiliar. I believe travel is one of the best ways to show kids the beauty and magic that […]
