G’day, you lovely lot! Who else is excited for the start of the Australian Open? If you’ve been following my blog for awhile, you’ll know that last May I started making special cupcakes for each of the Grand Slams. Well today I’m going to cap off this series with an Australian Open inspired cupcake. I’ve heard quite a few people who’ve traveled to Australia talk about Tim Tams and the famous “Tim Tam Slam”. Tim Tams are a chocolate biscuit or cookie that’s filled with chocolate cream and dipped in chocolate. I couldn’t pass up the chance to incorporate cookies […]
Today would have been John Lennon’s 76th birthday. It’s difficult to sum up the legacy of such a legendary artist. He could be a polarizing figure at times, but ultimately, he challenged the way we think and tried to make the world a little better. To celebrate, I made a special scotcheroo cupcake. Never heard of scotcheroos? Well, scotcheroos are dessert bars made with chocolate, peanut butter, butterscotch, and Rice Krispies. For this cupcake, I’m dropping the Rice Krispies and throwing in some corn flakes. Sounds a bit nonsensical at first, but trust me, the final product is unlike any […]
Today is the start of the US Open in the heart of the Big Apple. And as with the other Grand Slams, I’ve concocted a special cupcake to celebrate the spirit and energy of this iconic tournament. Such an American tournament calls for an equally patriotic cupcake, and nothing says “America” more than apple pie and Cracker Jacks. These two classic American flavors combine to create a spectacularly scrumptious caramel apple pie cupcake.
Peace and love, peace and love, peace and love! Today is the one-and-only Ringo Starr’s birthday. And as has become the annual tradition, Ringo has asked people around the world to take a moment to wish for peace and love at noon today. My contribution to this annual peace-and-love fest are these tie-dye vanilla cupcakes topped with edible peace signs and hearts. Sweet, soft, and bursting with color, these groovy little beauties are sure to brighten anyone’s day.
History imbues every nook and cranny of the All-England Club, from its ivy-covered walls to each blade of pristine emerald grass. White clothing, rainy days, and old-fashioned English etiquette are all part of Wimbledon’s charm and tradition. And while afternoon tea, finger sandwiches, and Pimm’s are always on-hand during the fortnight, one delicacy reigns supreme–strawberries and cream. There’s nothing more classic than a bowl of sweet, tart strawberries bathed in rich cream. Now you can enjoy this iconic treat in the form of a sweet, creamy cupcake. Because Wimbledon just isn’t Wimbledon without strawberries and cream.
It’s Sir Paul McCartney’s birthday! And we’re gonna party with a truly one-of-a-kind vegan cupcake. This cupcake combines everyone’s favorite flavor, chocolate, with classic English flavors like lavender and lemon. Rich, moist, and decadent, you would never guess that these cupcakes are vegan. So grab some cupcake liners and warmup the oven ’cause we’re gonna have a good time.
Yesterday was the start of Roland Garros–the French Open. What better excuse to explore and indulge in the flavors of France? French was one of my favorite subjects in high school. Our outstanding teacher, Monsieur le Prof, took the time to introduce us to some French cuisine. One of my favorite treats he brought to class was strawberries dipped in sour cream and rolled in brown sugar. Wait, sour cream? Yes, I said sour cream. As crazy as the combination sounds, trust me when I say that it is mouth-wateringly delicious. And for me, it just isn’t the French Open if I don’t break out the strawberries, […]
