Today is the start of the US Open in the heart of the Big Apple. And as with the other Grand Slams, I’ve concocted a special cupcake to celebrate the spirit and energy of this iconic tournament. Such an American tournament calls for an equally patriotic cupcake, and nothing says “America” more than apple pie and Cracker Jacks. These two classic American flavors combine to create a spectacularly scrumptious caramel apple pie cupcake.

History imbues every nook and cranny of the All-England Club, from its ivy-covered walls to each blade of pristine emerald grass. White clothing, rainy days, and old-fashioned English etiquette are all part of Wimbledon’s charm and tradition. And while afternoon tea, finger sandwiches, and Pimm’s are always on-hand during the fortnight, one delicacy reigns supreme–strawberries and cream. There’s nothing more classic than a bowl of sweet, tart strawberries bathed in rich cream. Now you can enjoy this iconic treat in the form of a sweet, creamy cupcake. Because Wimbledon just isn’t Wimbledon without strawberries and cream.
With the Summer Olympics coming up in just a couple of months, I thought it was the perfect time to put together a Brazilian Around the World Party for my niece and nephew. From the boisterous streets of Rio de Janeiro to the wilds of the Amazon rainforest, there’s so much to explore in South America’s largest country. Vamos!

Summer is here! Which means it’s time to start gardening. Why not get the kids involved? Gardening is a great way to get kids of the couch and outside learning about responsibility and science. It lets you spend quality time together enjoying the beauty of nature. And you may even find your kids are excited to eat the fruits and veggies they’ve grown. *gasp* But before you break out the trowels and herd the kiddos outside, here’s are a few tips for gardening with kids.
Yesterday was the start of Roland Garros–the French Open. What better excuse to explore and indulge in the flavors of France? French was one of my favorite subjects in high school. Our outstanding teacher, Monsieur le Prof, took the time to introduce us to some French cuisine. One of my favorite treats he brought to class was strawberries dipped in sour cream and rolled in brown sugar. Wait, sour cream? Yes, I said sour cream. As crazy as the combination sounds, trust me when I say that it is mouth-wateringly delicious. And for me, it just isn’t the French Open if I don’t break out the strawberries, […]
I love spring! Perhaps it’s the gardener in me, but this time of year is just so vibrant and magical. The snow in the valleys has slowly trickled away and the trees and mountains are tinged with a delicate, youthful green. Crocuses and other spring flowers break through the soil and begin to blush with vivid colors. Everything is imbued with life and energy. I could happily live in a world with just two season, so long as those seasons were spring and summer. For this Camera Shy post, I thought I’d share some of the photos I’ve taken this spring. I hope you enjoy! […]
April showers bring May flowers–crocuses, daffodils, tulips, hyacinths, irises, and so on. Don’t you just wish you could freeze time and make those vibrant, delicate flowers last forever? While I was at Joann’s buying supplies for an upcoming project, I discovered these gorgeous lockets. I immediately loved the vintage, timeless look and thought it would beautifully compliment some of the flowers I had pressed this spring. Add some decorative paper, perhaps a page from an old book, and you can capture the magic and allure of spring in a very fashionable necklace.
